Dear Department Managers and Schedulers,
Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful holiday season.
The 2021 summer registration will begin on Monday, February 1, 2021.
Until February 1st, you are free to make any edits to your Summer 2021 schedule (adds, cancellations, time changes, session changes, etc.) in Campus Solutions without consulting Summer Sessions.
Once registration begins, you will need to submit a 2021 Course Approval Form (CAF) to obtain approval from Summer Sessions before making the following edits to your summer schedule:
- Adding a Course
- Canceling a Course
- Changing a Course Component
- Changing the Session, Day or Time
- Changing the Unit Value
You do not need to submit a CAF to cancel classes (enrollment and non-enrollment sections) with no enrollments. You may just move forward and cancel these sections in Campus Solutions. PLEASE DO NOT “DELETE” THESE SECTIONS COMPLETELY AS IT LEAVES NO RECORD.
The CAF instructions will clearly state you are not required to submit a CAF to make edits to:
- Independent Study Courses
- Field Study Courses
- Self-Support Courses
- Summer Abroad Courses
- Global Internship Courses
We are trusting that any changes requiring approval from Summer Sessions will be routed through our CAF for our permission first. If we find that a department makes any one of these changes without the necessary approval, we will move forward with the release of penalties for making such changes. There will be no appeals to these penalties regardless of the reason for the change to the schedule. It is our hope that this will be a non-issue and everyone will follow the process we have outlined through the CAF.
When you submit a CAF it will be reviewed by the next business day. You will then receive an email from Summer Sessions either approving or denying your request. Upon receiving approval you may move forward with making edits in Campus Solutions.

The form will require CalNet authentication to access.
High School Students
Last summer, we asked departments to provide a list of appropriate classes for high school students. We often advise this population and would like to update the list for 2021. Please let us know if you have classes to add or would like removed. For any class you wish to add, please provide the catalog number, the section and the class number. Adding classes to this list will have the benefit of increasing your enrollments. Please email Deborah at firstname.lastname@example.org with your list or if you can’t remember what you provided previously.
Online Class Schedule Notes
As previously announced, summer 2021 classes will again be taught remotely or online (web-based, approved by COCI) due to the ongoing pandemic.
In order to ensure students have updated information about classes as they make enrollment decisions, please specify any critical details about your classes in the “Class Notes” section in Campus Solutions. This might include the teaching format and requirements, such as whether a class will be taught synchronously, asynchronously or a combination of both.
For further details about remote instruction this summer, please visit our Summer 2021 remote instruction resources website.
We look forward to working with you all again. Please let us know if you have any questions.
